Last week, the participants of the young and fabulous series have identified roadblocks or challenges that may stop them from achieving their goals. The most common issue I’ve heard and seen from my coaching clients, as well as the participants were the TIME and MOTIVATION elements.
It seems like when you’re a mom, everyone else comes first. Because we love our family so much, we devote all our time servicing them. I’ve been there, done that, to the point that when I go out to have time for myself, I feel so guilty being away from them that I end up NOT enjoying my time for me because I keep thinking about them. I unconsciously exhaust myself trying to be ALWAYS there for them, and because of that, I end up not only having the time to do something for myself, but also not having the energy and the motivation to do anything outside of my “mom job”. That kind of lifestyle had a negative impact on me, physically, and emotionally since I started having feelings of resentments.
For sometime, I felt like a victim. Someone who doesn’t have a choice but to accept the fact that I just don’t have the time for myself anymore. Having a fulltime job outside the house, a husband and two kids, not to mention the chores that I have to do was so overwhelming for me. Not until I’ve decided to MAKE A CHOICE and TAKE CONTROL of the situation that I’ve seen changes to start happening.
I started by taking note of where I spend my time everyday. Being aware of where my time goes helped me decide and prioritize my daily activities. Next, I started making a list of what will help me gain more energy so I will have the motivation to do something for myself. I started limiting my time on the computer, and tv when I’m at home, and spend more time sleeping, to give my body the rest it needs. I looked for more things that fuel my energy like, getting rid of the junks, soda, chocolates, candies at home and just buying organic, all-natural wholesome foods for me and my family. I also decluttered my house. Having an uncluttered environment nourishes and relaxes me, and helps give me more energy. I decluttered my life as well, getting rid of habits that no longer serve me. The more I take care of myself, the happier I got, and the more “available” and accomodating I became to my family, which also significantly improved our relationships with one another.
Only then, when I started to feel more rested, happier, and energized have I started to add things I wanted to do like exercises, and learning new stuff to my daily schedule. I made a CHOICE to let go and make room first for the new things I wanted do. And now my life has never been better…
What I am trying to point out in my story is that only when I MADE A CHOICE to go after what I want, and handle the challenges my way, instead of my challenges handling me, did my life turned out to be what I want. So this week, we’re gonna do two things.
- Go back to your list of roadblocks/challenges from last week. Make a list of the things you can do to address these challenges. It doesn’t have to be the super perfect resolution. Your solution is something that you feel is right for you and doable at this moment.
- Make another list of things you can do to fuel your energy. These are the kinds of fuel that give you the power to do all that you want to do and contribute to your overall health and well-being. Give yourself plenty of the good fuel you need to sustain yourself, and you’re on your way to achieving your goals!

Mindset is everything! When we chose to take control of our lives, chose to claim the responsibility we take back the power! Once we REALIZE that the power really is ours, then prioritizing becomes more straight forward. You really knocked it out of the park and covered all of the bases here… everything from how we take care of ourselves, to how we take care of others, to how we take care of our environment compounds (snowballs!) to dictate how we’re going to feel during the day. Powerful stuff hun!

Thank you for a motivational post! I especially agree with the ‘clutter’ aspect where I need to de-clutter my house and my mind, and my entire life is then rewarded for it.
It also is a choice. Everything is a choice. I either do THIS or I do THAT. I either get my workout in or I don’t. I either eat my healthy lunch or go out for a burger instead. A few weeks back I wrote a post all about choices (http://onebetamom.com/2010/01/28/choices/) and my hypothesis is:
“Life is all about choices, and every single decision we make, big or small, is either is in line with who we are and who we want to strive to be and our goals or it’s not. “
It’s ten-times easier to pass up a Snickers bar for an apple when you realize that the Snicker will only take you further away from your goals and is simply not in line with who you want to be!!!

I found that just by writing in a journal everything that I did during the day for a week straight I came to realize that I was just letting the small things in life have control over me and my time. Using a journal is a great way to identify things that may be controlling you so that you can quickly take back the reigns and proceed to achieve your goals.
