Here’s what we’ve been doing so far on the young and fabulous series:
- We’ve asked ourselves what we want?
- Then we assessed our driving force by asking the question Why do we want it?
- We listed our outer obstacles and challenges that are stopping us from achieving what we want
- We then talked about inner blocks or beliefs that are preventing us from moving forward with our goals like:
- How one feels like a victim and thinks they’re stuck in their situation without a choice
- The inner voice that speaks to our self-doubt and fear
- Limiting beliefs
- The clutter in both your environment and life/mind
Now that you’ve learned how to deal with both inner and outer blocks, let’s take step forward and create our SMART goals. Going back to our list of what we want, modify your statements to make it SMART:
Specific
- What exactly are you going to DO to achieve it?
- Precisely how many are you gonna get done?
- How could you be more committed to this plan?
Measurable
- How many?
- How much time?
- How many times a week, month, year?
Achievable
- Reality check
- Is it possible? If no, explore another option. If yes, make a committment to do this.
Reasonable
- Another reality check
- How reasonable is it that you will be able to do this?
Time-oriented
- When exactly do you plan to achieve this by?
SMART goals convert our plans and dreams from vague to more specific and definitely helps in moving us forward. Keep in mind that what you want might not necessarily convert to one SMART goal. It might need to be broken down into several SMART goals that creates your big picture.
Have fun!

Aaah it takes a mom (hot-ness optional!) to be able to break the really big things into baby steps.
Thanks for making this whole goal-setting thing so easy and straightforward – and for all the links to the previous steps. Makes for easy reference when I’m in over my head!!

Really like these SMART Goals, Cherrie – Short, to the point, Steps make things so much easier to begin with and when they are really Smart ones, that adds so much more motivation to get them done. Thanks, it reminds me that I could really work on the time-oriented one for some of my own goals.
I heard it said that a goal is nothing but a dream with a deadline! How true! I love your short and sweet approach to making SMART goals! That’s a great acronym to achieving the results we want while making sure we don’t under or over reach. This step by step approach is a blessing!

Awesome post about smart goals! One of my favorite quotes (from an unknown author) is the following:
**In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to daily acts of trivia**
Your direction regarding smart goals help us to define our goals. Thanks!
