You know what’s more frustrating than trying to squeeze in mom time to workout out of your chaotic schedule? Finding out that you really didn’t lose any pounds after trying so damn hard to follow a routine for sometime now. And then you’ll end up going back to your old ways, taking your frustration to your favorite comfort foods. Then guess what happens… you grow a size or two more from your current dress size. Which will motivate you again to try another diet or exercise routine… And the cycle goes on… (yawn)…
One of the things I’ve read that could contribute to one’s difficulty to loose weight is metabolism. Metabolism is the amount of energy your body uses each day. They say that aging slows metabolism so you often see people getting “bigger” as they grow older. Could be due to lifestyle. Whatever it is, it would be nice if we can all have the same rate of metabolism we had when we were younger. So here are some ways we could do to rev up our metabolism and hopefully help us loose or maintain our weight successfully:
- Drink eight glasses of water a day. I said water, so soda, juice or gatorade doesn’t count! Aids in digestion, emptying the stomach and flatter tummy!
- By staying cool, you can burn more calories so keep indoor temps cooler and exercise outdoors. I knew there’s a purpose of me being stuck here in Chicago.
- Spread meals and snacks 3-4 hours apart so your have energy throughout the day. If you skip meals and end up starving, you tend to devour foods and add more unwanted pounds on you.
- Watch what you eat. This is an awesome mom care tip. Remember the saying “You are what you eat?” Well, if you feast on foods high in sugar, fats, artificial sweeteners, and low in water and fiber, you end up sluggish, slow digestion, and can cause weight gain. Foods that speed up metabolism include whole grains, beans and legumes, fresh herbs and spices that provide proteins. Veggies and fruits include apples, blueberries, tangerines, grapefuit, watermelon, oranges, asparagus, carrots, broccoli and cabbage.
- Build muscles by staying active and working out. Muscles burn more calories. I know. You still need to spend mom time working out. Just visualize the payback. It’s totally worth it.
- And lastly, be persistent and patient. Takes time for your changes to take effect. But if you’re persistent, you could probably expect to start seeing results in 3 to 4 months time.
