Why should you join me and speak now for kids in Health Reform?
Most (89 percent) of the 77.7 million children in the U.S. are insured in one way or another; however, there are 8.8 million children (about 11 percent of all children) who are not insured.
It is important for children to have health care coverage:
- Children are more likely to get treatment for recurring illnesses and preventative care from a physician or dentist if they have insurance. As a result, they get sick less often and get needed treatment when they are sick.
- Unhealthy children are more likely to miss school and their parents to miss work to care for them.
- Uninsured children and those who don’t have comprehensive insurance coverage are more likely to lack a usual source of care. Their caregivers are more likely to delay or forgo care they may need. As a result, they are more likely to be admitted to hospitals through emergency rooms.
- Many adult chronic health conditions have their origins in childhood. Chronic health conditions among children, such as asthma, obesity and developmental, learning and psychiatric disorders, are on the rise.

Certainly a great cause-I am going to check it out now on twitter!! Thanks for sharing the information!
We desparately need health care reform for everyone in the US. It’s not right that families should go bankrupt trying to pay for procedures and treatment for chronic illnesses. Everyone is paranoid that their taxes will jump, but currently the US spends far more of their GDP on healthcare than other G8 nations do. When people without insurance get sick enough to have to visit the emergency room, it costs far more to treat them than a visit to the doctor’s office would. Not to mention US wages are depressed because employers have to spend so much on insuring their employees.
Sorry for ranting, but this is a topic I’m very passionate about.
I agree with Norma. Healthcare is essential to have for children. I was layed off and had to pay ridiculous amounts of money for my sick child.

I hear you. My mother in law had an accident. She tripped and hit her head in the pavement and had to undergo a Craniotomy. She does NOT have any insurance at all. She ended up with some hundred thousand bill from the hospital alone, and some ridiculous charges from the surgeons, labs, etc.
