You wanna stay young and fabulous? Or wanna be one? Make sure you have these four common habits ingrained into your lifestyle:
- Do not smoke. If you do, quit now.
- Do not drink. If you do, keep it under two drinks per day.
- Work it! Move it! Get at least two hours of physical activity per week.
- Eat fruits and vegetables at least three times daily.
Simple behaviors, but adds up together. According to the article I was reading, studies show that people who smoke, drink too much, have inactive lifestyles and have poor diet combined, can look 12 years older and have increased risk of death by heart disease and cancer.
I don’t know which one is scarier. Looking 12 years older than your real age, or acquiring a fatal disease, but adopting a healthy lifestyle now will increase the odds of you living longer, and looking younger. Totally a win-win!
So, when are you gonna start?

I think smoking ages you faster than anything else. Well, that and sun damage. I tell my teenagers, “Every grown-up that smokes wants to quit. Why start?”.
So many people think they have to make drastic changes in their live to improve their health. Small baby steps can have a big impact.

If I had a choice I think I’d go for looking 12 years older. The fatal disease is, well kind of fatal

If everyone would just listen to this kind of advice there would be a lot less illness in the world. I’m so glad my parents taught me that smoking is awful for you.
I dance as my exercise since I usually don’t start moving if I don’t have music in my head- LOL. Also drinking a lot of water helps your kidneys to work really well.
Great tips!
All the best,
Eren

I couldn’t agree more! Smokers tend to get much drier, more leathery skin earlier in life too.
An aged opera star I once worked with told me :-
“Dahling, the way to preserve meat is to smoke it, pickle it, or salt it. So I drink, smoke and live by the sea – I expect to live to be 100!”
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that were true? *sigh*
Unfortunately, we know better and that smoking and excessive drinking will shorten your life by nearly a third – but the living by the sea sounds good!

I’ve quit smoking and drinking, but my diet is terrible and he only exercise I get is mowing the lawn. I’m going to be 50 this year, and I’m feeling it.
